BBC News: Ministry of Defence acquires government’s first quantum computer

The BBC interviewed our Co-founder and CEO Richard Murray for a news story about ORCA Computing selling the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) its first quantum computer to develop future data processing capabilities.

Stephen Till, Fellow at the MoD’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), called it a “milestone moment”.

He says having access to ORCA’s quantum computer will accelerate the MoD’s understanding of the technology. “We expect the ORCA system to provide significantly improved latency – the speed at which we can read and write to the quantum computer.”

In a year-long programme of activity, the MoD will use ORCA’s PT-1 model, the first computer of its kind to operate at room temperature and be based on-premises.
